FoDS Day Out

posted in: News Posts 2

13 FoDS visited the Ecclesbourne Valley Heritage Railway on Saturday 13th July but we were not at all unlucky considering the date and our number: the rain only falling whilst we were chuffing along!

Members travelled by train to start from the Duffield end via Chesterfield & Derby and spent the day either up and down the line or breaking their return journey in the village of Wirksworth – both very worthwhile and enjoyable activities.  We finished up just catching the 16:02 back to Derby.

FoDS thank our new Events Organiser, Patrick Harrison, for his well informed planning but also his light touch when suggesting timings and things to do etc. We used a Derbyshire Wayfarer ticket to get there and two-for-one vouchers for unlimited travel on the preserved railway – both great value.

Thanks for the accolade……all part of the service. Plans to do further trips on preserved railway routes will be set up for 2020, with the Churnet Valley railway an April/early May likelihood, and either the Severn Railway or the Gloucester/Warwickshire for the early autumn. Though the latter does terminate one end at Cheltenham Racecourse, the last train on this years schedule would mean it wouldn’t be economic to go racing, unless on race days there is a special timetable.

Watch out for announcements in the FODS Newsletter and emails to members with on-line facility

Further to the above, look out for details in the next newsletter (Feb/March 2020) — Churnet Valley trip is scheduled for either Saturday 25/Sunday 26th April (exact date will be in print) and the Severn VR when the Autumn Steam Gala is on in September. Likely date Friday 18th, but this will be confirmed when event details on the SVR are publicised in their website
